The Vuyo Biyela Foundation is proud to announce not only the highly anticipated Vuyo Biyela Foundation Football Tournament, but also the official launch of the foundation, taking place on Saturday, 25 April 2026, at King Zwelithini Stadium.

This milestone event marks the beginning of a long-term commitment to youth empowerment, mentorship, and community upliftment, using sport as a powerful vehicle for change.

At the heart of the launch is a dynamic, one-day football tournament bringing together 16 top grassroots teams across two divisions:
  • Top 8 Under-13 teams
  • Top 8 Under-17 teams

With over 300 young players, the tournament offers a professionally structured platform for emerging talent to compete, grow, and gain exposure while reinforcing discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

The official launch of the foundation signals a broader vision, one that extends far beyond match day.

The Vuyo Biyela Foundation is built on a clear and urgent mission to groom young boys into responsible, empowered men; to provide mentorship and positive role models; to open access to opportunity through sport and community programmes, and to cultivate a culture of discipline, identity, and purpose.

This launch positions the foundation as a long-term force for change within Umlazi and beyond. While many community tournaments come and go, this one is being built with something far more intentional: longevity.

“This is not just about one day,” he shares. “I want to see this grow. I want to see it become a platform where young boys can start their journeys, not just in football, but in life.”

The vision is clear: to create a consistent, structured space where talent is nurtured, discipline is instilled, and opportunity is no longer out of reach.

Delivered in collaboration with the Umlazi Local Football Association, the tournament ensures strong grassroots alignment and structured competition, while also strengthening relationships between local stakeholders.

Beyond football, the event will be an experience, featuring live entertainment and cultural performances, local food vendors, small-business participation, and community engagement activities. Creating a vibrant space where sport, culture, and community intersect.

Founded by acclaimed actor and humanitarian Vuyo Biyela, the foundation is deeply personal in its mission. The foundation seeks to address something often left unspoken: the need for guidance, structure, and positive male influence.

“My dream has always been to help boys grow into responsible, grounded men,” says Biyela. “I understand how important guidance, structure, and opportunity are. Through this foundation, I want to give young boys what many of us didn’t have: a sense of direction, purpose, and belief in what’s possible.”

At its core, the tournament is designed as more than competition; it is a getaway. A structured pathway into professional football where young players are not only seen, but also developed, mentored, and positioned for opportunity.

Biyela envisions a future where the tournament becomes a scouting ground, a place where raw talent from Umlazi and surrounding communities can be elevated to the next level.

From these fields to professional clubs such as AmaZulu FC, Lamontville Golden Arrows, Richards Bay FC… and ultimately, to national and international stages.

The Vuyo Biyela Foundation Football Tournament is not simply a kickoff event; it is the beginning of a legacy. A bold commitment to youth development, a celebration of township excellence, and an open invitation to partners, brands, and communities to invest in the future of South Africa’s next generation.
