Johannesburg is set to experience electronic music differently when The Source Collective makes its debut at Sognage on Friday, 9 October 2026.

Positioned as more than another night on the city’s entertainment calendar, The Source Collective is an immersive audiovisual experience that brings together music, visuals, lighting, storytelling and production design to create something that feels less like a traditional DJ set and more like stepping into a cinematic world.

At its heart, The Source Collective is built around a simple but powerful idea: music should move people beyond the dancefloor. Every performance has been intentionally designed as a journey, with custom audiovisual stories evolving alongside each artist’s set. Rather than relying on repetitive visual loops, the experience will see music, lighting, visuals and production move together, creating individual cinematic worlds for each performance.

For audiences, the ambition is equally intentional. The Source Collective wants people to leave with something they did not arrive with, whether that is a new friendship, a fresh perspective, a moment of inspiration, or simply the feeling of having experienced something unforgettable.

The concept was born from two connected ideas: pushing the boundaries of live electronic music through original audiovisual storytelling, while creating an environment where music becomes a catalyst for genuine human connection.

It is also a return to the source, to the origins of music, rhythm, storytelling, and collective experiences. In a world increasingly defined by distraction and digital noise, The Source Collective seeks to create a space where people can reconnect with something authentic.

And then there is the “Collective”.

The name represents the people who make the experience possible: the artists, creatives, audience members, partners, and collaborators. Each contributes something to the experience, creating a world that is ultimately bigger than any one person.

The inaugural event will feature a carefully curated selection of live electronic music performances from artists who embody authenticity, musical depth and emotional storytelling.

Audiences can expect sounds spanning Afro House, Afro Tech, Deep House and melodic electronic music, with the full DJ lineup set to be announced soon. But the artists will not simply be performing against a backdrop.

Each artist will enter a custom-designed visual story created specifically around their performance. As their music evolves, so too will the visuals, lighting, and production, allowing the audience to experience each set as its own narrative.

It is this relationship between sound and visual storytelling that sets The Source Collective apart. Rather than attending a conventional electronic music event, guests are invited into a fully immersive audiovisual world where every element has a purpose.

Beyond the production and music, The Source Collective is ultimately about people. The event aims to cultivate a community built around creativity, curiosity, respect, and meaningful experiences, one where strangers can become friends, music becomes a shared language, and the people in the room become part of the story.

The vision is rooted in the belief that some of the most memorable experiences are not necessarily the ones we plan for, but the moments and connections we unexpectedly take home with us.

This inaugural event is only the beginning of a much bigger vision, and we invite everyone to experience where that journey starts.”

The Source Collective arrives at a time when Johannesburg continues to play an influential role in the global growth of Afro House and Afro Tech.

The city has become an important meeting point for South African music, culture and nightlife, and The Source Collective hopes to add to that story by introducing a new approach to how electronic music can be experienced live.

For its founders, this is not about replacing what already exists. It is about expanding what is possible. The ambition is to establish a new standard for immersive audiovisual experiences while celebrating the creativity, artistry and cultural significance of South Africa’s electronic music scene.

• Tickets are currently on sale via Quicket, with prices starting from R200.
• Doors open at 6PM, with the event scheduled to conclude at 1:30AM.
