“We live in a world of illusion where we often don’t allow ourselves to be real,” CowBoii explains. “Life is difficult for everyone. We shouldn’t only celebrate the good moments. We also need to speak about the hard ones because that’s how we heal.”

On Askhulumeni, CowBoii delivers a heartfelt prayer for breakthrough, capturing the frustration of working tirelessly while still struggling to make ends meet. Tracks such as Non-Confrontation and Mkhuba continue the introspection, encouraging emotional expression and freedom from the weight of external opinions.

As the project progresses, the energy begins to shift. Emadlaleni Aluhlaza celebrates unity and collective ambition, while Autumn serves as a reminder that difficult seasons do not last forever. The album’s final stretch, including Kuyafana Maan, Formation, Shashalaza FC and Esontweni, embraces community, football culture, humour and celebration, creating a fitting conclusion that reflects life’s balance between healing and happiness.

Recorded over ten months across multiple studios, iKati Elimhlophe brings together a strong collective of collaborators while remaining unmistakably rooted in CowBoii’s creative vision. Rather than following a rigid formula, the project was allowed to evolve organically, with each song developing according to its own emotional needs.

“I never wanted this project to live inside one sound,” says CowBoii. “The emotional records and the high-energy records belong together because that’s what life feels like. Some days you’re healing, other days you’re celebrating. I wanted the album to move through both.”
