Some careers don’t happen overnight. They are built one shift, one opportunity and one “yes” at a time. Boipelo Mooketsi’s journey is one of them.

The 5FM broadcaster, MC, voice-over artist, digital host and producer has been nominated for Entertainment Radio Presenter of the Year at the Basadi in Music Awards, a recognition that celebrates not only where she is today, but the years of work that have quietly laid the foundation for this moment.

For those who tune into 5 After Hours on 5FM from Monday to Thursday between 10 pm and 1 am, Boipelo has become a familiar voice guiding listeners through the night. She also helps shape youth culture conversations as the Digital Host and Producer of Vibe Check, bringing together entertainment, music and digital storytelling.

But before commercial radio came calling, there was VOW FM. Her broadcasting career began in 2017, where her consistency quickly earned her a weekday daytime show, Area Code, before she went on to host The VOW Top 40 Chart Show. A stint at YFM followed before she secured her place at 5FM in 2021, marking a significant milestone in her broadcasting career.

Outside the studio, Boipelo has built a reputation as a versatile media personality. From hosting large-scale events like the Strawberry Lips, I Love Mwah Experience, Diamonds and Dorings Music Festival, the Connie Chiume Film Festival and merSETA’s Auto Engage Youth Empowerment Programme, to lending her voice to campaigns for ABSA, Nedbank, Aquafresh, SABC and Trace Africa, she’s continued to expand her footprint across the industry.

She’s also no stranger to working behind the scenes. As a producer, Boipelo has contributed to projects including the ABSA Champagne Festival, the ABSA Jasiri Awards and the Connie Chiume Film Festival, proving that her passion for storytelling extends far beyond the microphone.

An AFDA and Phakama Women’s Academy graduate, her growing list of accolades already includes winning Radio Personality of the Year at the Northern Cape Awards in 2021 and multiple South African Radio Awards nominations.

It’s the kind of statement that speaks to the heart of her journey. While awards are often seen as the destination, this nomination feels more like a milestone along a career that continues to evolve with intention.
