MANDISI DYANTYIS ANNOUNCES "SYMPHONIC CELEBRATION" A LANDMARK ORCHESTRAL THEATRE TOUR ACROSS SOUTH AFRICA
Certain voices do more than entertain. They carry memory, spirituality, grief, joy, and history all at once. Mandisi Dyantyis has spent years becoming one of those voices, and now, he is preparing to elevate that experience even further with the announcement of his highly anticipated Symphonic Celebration tour.
Presented in collaboration with Real Wired Music, the orchestral theatre production will see the acclaimed Afro-Soul-Jazz artist perform alongside full symphonic orchestras in Durban, Johannesburg, and Cape Town this winter. More than just another concert series, Symphonic Celebration feels positioned as a full-circle artistic moment, one that merges the intimacy of Mandisi Dyantyis’ songwriting with the emotional scale and grandeur of orchestral music.
Known for creating music that feels deeply spiritual and emotionally transformative, Dyantyis will reimagine some of the most defining songs from his catalogue in a theatrical setting designed to immerse audiences completely. Backed by his regular band, vocal ensemble, and some of South Africa’s most respected orchestras, the production promises emotionally rich renditions of music drawn from celebrated projects including Somandla, Cwaka, and Intlambululu.
Following multiple sold-out performances around the country in recent years, Symphonic Celebration arrives as a natural artistic evolution for an artist who has continuously pushed the boundaries of live performance. The production opens at Durban’s Playhouse Opera House on 29 and 30 May 2026 alongside the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, before heading to Johannesburg’s Montecasino Teatro for a three-night run from 3 to 5 July 2026 with the Egoli Symphonic Orchestra. The tour concludes at Cape Town’s Artscape Opera House on 22 August 2026 in what has been announced as a One Night Only performance with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.
Born and raised in Gqeberha, Mandisi Dyantyis has steadily built a reputation as one of South Africa’s most important musical storytellers. A graduate of the University of Cape Town with a Masters degree in Jazz Studies earned with distinction, his work has extended far beyond traditional music spaces into theatre, composition, and musical direction. His artistry has seen him tour internationally with the Isango Ensemble Theatre Company while also earning a NAACP nomination for Best Musical Director.
His critically acclaimed projects Somandla and Cwaka have earned widespread recognition, including accolades at the South African Music Awards. At the same time, his recent creative contributions continue to reflect an artist operating at the highest level of cultural storytelling. From composing the score for Rise, The Siya Kolisi Story to creating music for the ballet production Nina, By Whatever Means, Dyantyis continues proving that his artistry exists beyond genre and beyond limitation.
“Symphonic Celebration” is the convergence of everything that has made Mandisi Dyantyis one of South Africa’s most essential musical voices, the intimacy of his songwriting, the power of live performance, and the sheer grandeur of orchestral music, delivered across three world-class stages, for a limited number of nights. This is an experience that, by its very nature, cannot be repeated.
What makes this production particularly exciting is its emotional ambition. This is not simply about orchestral accompaniment. It is about expanding the emotional language of music that already carries immense spiritual and cultural weight. Across only a limited number of performances and on some of South Africa’s most prestigious stages, Symphonic Celebration feels less like a standard tour and more like a rare cultural moment audiences will want to witness in real time.
With previous orchestral performances selling out rapidly, audiences are encouraged to secure tickets early.
