Sound architect, Strei, steps into a more refined and introspective chapter of his artistry with the release of his latest single, “Anxiety.” Marking a defining moment in his evolution, the track sees the rising artist fully embrace the emotional depth that underpins his self-defined Afromood sound.

Emerging as a distinct voice within the Afrobeats landscape, Strei has steadily carved out a sonic identity rooted in feeling. With “Anxiety,” he shifts the focus inward, stripping back the layers and allowing emotion to take centre stage. The result is a body of work that feels intentional, exposed, and deeply personal, where the experience itself is not softened but presented as it is: direct, unresolved, and unfiltered.

“This song is exactly what the title suggests,” Strei explains. “It came from a place of expressing raw, unfiltered emotions, both positive and negative. I deal with anxiety personally, so this was me being open about that experience and putting those feelings into the music.”

Built on the foundation of his Afromood sound, “Anxiety” stands as one of the clearest representations of Strei’s artistic identity to date. The production leans into restraint, creating space for vulnerability to lead. Rather than relying on layered complexity, the track prioritises emotional clarity, resulting in a listening experience that feels both intimate and immersive.

“I’d describe the sound as Afromood,” he adds. “It’s expressive, vulnerable, and emotional. This song reflects everything I aim to put into my music and defines the core of my sound.”

Rooted in lived experience, “Anxiety” draws directly from Strei’s personal encounters with the emotion. There is no attempt to resolve or reframe it; instead, the song captures the feeling in its most honest form. Both the tension and the stillness are present, reflecting the dual nature of anxiety itself.

In many ways, the single builds on the groundwork laid by his previous project, ITAM (Introduction to Afromood). Where that body of work introduced listeners to his sonic framework, “Anxiety” refines and sharpens it into a more focused expression.

“This record is a more refined, focused, and cleaner version of what I introduced before,” Strei notes. “It’s one of the most fully realized expressions of Afromood so far.”

The creation process mirrors this sense of authenticity and immediacy. Developed at KTIZO Studios alongside producers Treasure and Big Space, the track came together organically in a single day, from production to vocal recording, guided more by instinct than structure.

“My process is very organic,” he says. “We built the beat from scratch. I freestyled melodies and then developed the strongest ideas. For this song, I already had the theme in mind, so certain words naturally came through and evolved into the full story.”

Live guitar elements performed by Big Space introduce a subtle yet impactful layer, enhancing the track’s emotional weight without overpowering its essence. What followed was a careful refinement process, ensuring the final product maintained its rawness while achieving technical precision.

At its core, “Anxiety” is not positioned as a solution, but as a shared experience, one that offers connection rather than commentary. “This isn’t about solving anxiety,” Strei concludes. “It’s about expressing it honestly and creating something that people who feel the same way can connect with.”

As his catalogue continues to grow, Strei remains intentional about building a sound anchored in emotional truth. With “Anxiety,” he doesn’t expand his identity; he sharpens it, further cementing his place as an artist committed to exploring the internal landscape with clarity, honesty, and purpose.
