MPHO.WAV Taps Thakzin, Nelia and Shimza for Two New Singles Ahead of Sophomore Album The Wav
South African electronic music continues to find new ways to tell African stories, and MPHO.WAV is bringing that spirit into his next musical chapter.
The producer, vocalist and DJ has released two new singles, Morwa Masingilo, featuring Thakzin and Nelia, and Mamano, featuring Shimza. Released simultaneously on Friday, 9 October 2026, the tracks offer an early taste of his forthcoming sophomore album, The Wav, scheduled to arrive on 30 November 2026.
While the two records bring different energies to the dance floor, they share a common thread: a sound rooted in rhythm, collaboration and cultural expression.
MPHO.WAV has been carving out a distinct space in South Africa’s electronic music scene by bringing together elements of Afro-house, deep house, jazz, soul and gospel. Following his debut album, Book of Wav, the musician continues to explore the possibilities of his sound while collaborating with established names in the local dance music landscape.
On Morwa Masingilo, his collaboration with Thakzin and Nelia takes a more celebratory approach, drawing inspiration from the joy of welcoming new life.
The track was inspired by a TikTok video showing Nelia surrounded by family and friends celebrating the birth of a child. That moment of collective happiness became the foundation for a song about community, new beginnings, and the promise of another generation.
Its title is accompanied by the Xitsonga phrase “Amutaswivona kwe!”, meaning “Behold, a new generation is born.” Blending traditional African rhythmic influences with an uplifting dance sound, the single turns a deeply human experience into a shared musical celebration.
It is a reminder that dance music can do more than move a crowd; it can also carry the emotions, traditions, and moments that connect people.
Where Morwa Masingilo celebrates new beginnings, Mamano is built for a different kind of moment: one that belongs on the dance floor.
Teaming up with internationally recognised DJ and producer Shimza, MPHO.WAV delivers a high-energy record driven by powerful vocal chants, rhythmic momentum and an energetic drop.
The track draws on the Xitsonga phrase “Teka Mamano!”, meaning “Here, take it”, giving the record a vocal identity that complements its dance-floor focus.
For MPHO.WAV, the collaboration also carries personal significance. He has long admired Shimza’s ability to connect with audiences and take South African electronic music to international stages.
Their partnership brings together two artists with a shared connection to the country’s electronic music culture, while offering listeners a different expression of MPHO.WAV’s evolving sound.
Together, the singles introduce listeners to the musical direction of The Wav, MPHO.WAV’s second studio album, which follows Book of Wav.
The forthcoming project is expected to further explore his versatility while holding on to the emotional depth, rhythmic identity, and authenticity that have shaped his artistry.
The simultaneous release of Morwa Masingilo and Mamano also offers an interesting preview of the album’s range, moving between a celebration of life and community and a high-energy collaboration designed for the dance floor.
For an artist working across Afro-house, deep house and other soulful influences, that range creates room to explore different moods without losing the cultural grounding of the music.
With The Wav set for release on 30 November 2026 through Platoon, these two singles give audiences an early opportunity to experience what MPHO.WAV is building towards.
