ReaDaSoul has officially stepped into a new chapter of his career with the release of Head Above Water, a debut EP that reflects years of patience, growth, and creative intention.

Built over four years across studios in Gauteng, the project marks an important milestone for the South African producer and soulful Amapiano artist. Rather than rushing to release music, ReaDaSoul chose to wait until every song reflected the vision he had for the project, a decision that ultimately gives Head Above Water its quiet confidence.

Rooted in soft, mellow Amapiano, the EP leans into soulful melodies, atmospheric production and understated log drums to create a listening experience that feels deeply reflective. It’s a project that isn’t trying to compete for attention. Instead, it invites listeners to slow down and sit with the emotions each song brings.

“The sound is more mature,” ReaDaSoul says. “It was a very patient and intentional approach. No pressure to impress anyone but those who listen and care.” That philosophy runs through every track.

Some of the songs date back to 2022, but instead of treating the EP as a collection of individual releases, ReaDaSoul spent time shaping a cohesive body of work from beginning to end. The result is an album that values storytelling just as much as sound.

Across Head Above Water, he reflects on life’s highs and lows, love, friendship, financial pressure, career uncertainty, and the resilience it takes to keep moving forward when the road ahead isn’t always clear.

“This EP is a reflection of resilience,” ReaDaSoul explains. “A journey through the ups and downs of life while learning how to keep your head above water.”

Rather than offering neat conclusions, the project embraces life’s uncertainty. It reminds listeners that growth is rarely linear and that sometimes resilience simply means choosing to keep going.

When asked what he hopes listeners will take away from the project, his answer is simple. “Hope,” he says simply, when asked what he wants listeners to take away. “It is never too late. And it could be tomorrow, that moment you wish for.”

That same level of intention shaped the people behind the music. Producers C Trix, Mido Mi, Maremo and Bhekzin, alongside the vocalists and musicians featured throughout the EP, were all chosen with a clear purpose.

“I was very intentional with who I wanted on the project,” he says, “because there were specific things I wanted from every one of them.”

It’s a sentiment that becomes clear as the project unfolds. Every collaboration feels considered, adding to the emotional landscape without distracting from ReaDaSoul’s own artistic voice.

Following the release of lead single Buyelekhaya alongside De Soul and Miss Q, which introduced listeners to themes of longing, absence and reconciliation, Head Above Water expands those conversations into something even more introspective. Together, the tracks form a project that speaks not only to personal experiences, but to the shared realities of navigating life with hope intact.
