ZEE NXUMALO'S CULTURAL TAKEOVER EARNS FORBES 30 UNDER 30 RECOGNITION

Some artists dominate charts, and others become part of culture. At just 23 years old, Zee Nxumalo has firmly established herself as both.

The award-winning, multi-platinum star has earned a coveted spot on the Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 list, joining a new generation of young Africans being recognised for their impact across business, entertainment, innovation and culture.

For many South Africans, the recognition feels less like a surprise and more like a reflection of what has been unfolding in real time.

Over the past few years, Zee Nxumalo has become one of the most visible and influential young voices in South African entertainment. Through a catalogue of hits including “Mamma”, “Awe Mah”, “Ngisakuthanda”, “Guqa”, “Thula Mabota” and “Funk 55”, she has built a reputation as an artist capable of creating music that resonates far beyond streaming platforms.

With more than 300 million streams and a social media following that now exceeds five million people, Zee’s rise has been impossible to ignore. Yet her influence extends beyond the numbers. Whether through music, fashion, brand collaborations or digital culture, she has become a defining figure for a generation of young South Africans navigating ambition, identity and visibility in the digital age.

That cultural influence has translated into partnerships with some of the world’s most recognisable brands, including Nivea, PUMA, KFC, McDonald’s, Heineken and Nickelodeon. Together, these collaborations speak to an artist whose appeal stretches well beyond music and into the broader cultural conversation.

The Forbes recognition arrives during another milestone-filled chapter in her career. Her single “Ngisakuthanda” has achieved triple platinum status, while “Mamma” has gone double platinum and “Thula Mabota” has earned platinum certification. Alongside the success of her EPs Inja Ye Game and Izinja Zam, the achievements continue to position her among the country’s most commercially successful young artists.

As her audience continues to grow across Africa and beyond, the Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 honour feels like both a celebration of how far she has come and an indication of where she is headed next.

Zee Nxumalo is no longer simply part of the conversation around African pop culture. Increasingly, she is helping shape it.
