Inside Emzini: Power, Secrets and a Family on the Brink in e.tv’s New Drama
A new township series explores what happens when legacy, ambition, and truth collide.
e.tv is set to introduce viewers to Emzini, a bold new township drama that dives deep into the price of ambition, the weight of family loyalty, and the consequences of long-buried secrets.
Premiering on 13 April at 9 PM, the series delivers an emotionally charged narrative anchored by a powerful ensemble cast and layered characters navigating legacy, survival, and the relentless pursuit of power.
Set in Alexandra township, Emzini centres around Emzini Lounge, a thriving lifestyle hotspot owned by the formidable Nkosi family. While the venue represents status and success in the community, it also becomes the battleground for a dangerous family war, where betrayal simmers beneath the surface, and unresolved tensions threaten to erupt. As the fight for control intensifies, the business transforms into both a symbol of legacy and a prize worth risking everything for.
Leading the cast is Wiseman Ncube as Shaka Nkosi, the respected yet feared eldest son caught between protecting his family’s empire and confronting the emotional weight of his past. As he fights to claim his place at the helm, Shaka must also face the truth about his biological father, a revelation that could change everything.
Khabonina Qhubeka delivers a commanding performance as Dudu Nkosi, the iron-fisted matriarch who built Emzini through resilience, sacrifice, and ruthless survival instincts. Fiercely protective of both her empire and her son, Dudu’s grip on the past threatens to fracture her family and unravel everything she’s built.
Muzi Mathabela stars as Zakhele Nkosi, a retired police captain whose power and influence extend far beyond his badge. Strategic and unyielding, Zakhele’s world is shaken when the truth about Shaka’s paternity surfaces, igniting a brutal power struggle that could tear the Nkosi family apart.
Dumisani Mbebe takes on the role of Panyaza Fakude, a man seeking redemption after spending 25 years in prison for a crime tied to the Nkosi family’s past. His return reopens old wounds, bringing unresolved emotions and unfinished business as he attempts to reconnect with his son and reclaim his place in a life that moved on without him.
The next generation of the Nkosi family raises the stakes even higher. Tyson Mathonsi plays Bandile Nkosi, the ambitious and calculating middle son determined to prove himself worthy of leading the empire, while Manqoba Khumalo portrays Junior Nkosi, the carefree youngest brother chasing dreams of becoming a DJ, until reality forces him into the family’s high-stakes power game.
On the other side of this unfolding story are the Modise sisters, whose lives were reshaped by tragedy. Rorisang Modise, played by Bokang Phelane, is a resilient and principled young woman determined to rebuild her life after her father’s murder left her family in poverty. Now working as a waitress at Emzini after losing her job for standing up for justice, she is driven by a need to reclaim her family’s dignity while protecting her younger sister, despite the emotional scars she carries.
Thuso Mokoena plays Oratilwe Modise, a gifted young musician chasing fame as her escape, unaware of how deeply her fate is intertwined with the Nkosi family. Meanwhile, Motshabi Tyelele steps into the role of Nhlokomeleng Modise, a soft-spoken widow grappling with loss, guilt, and survival after her husband’s murder. Anchored in faith, she struggles to hold her daughters together while seeking redemption and a way forward.
The world of Emzini is further enriched by a dynamic supporting cast. Nomsa Buthelezi plays Gogo Ongabizw’ngegama, a revered traditional healer whose spiritual insight guides the Nkosi family through turbulent times. Bhuhle Moletsane appears as Lerato, a sharp and ambitious waitress determined to rewrite her future, while Nozi Langa portrays Mmaserame, a driven young woman with dreams of building her own business.
Adding flair and vibrant energy is Tumi Matlila as Marinade, a flamboyant waiter with bold fashion dreams and an even bigger personality. With aspirations of becoming a style icon, Marinade brings humour, heart, and a reflection of youth ambition to the series.
At its core, Emzini is a story about survival, redemption, and the consequences of our choices. As the past collides with the present, viewers can expect emotional twists, unexpected alliances, and powerful character arcs that unpack what it truly means to fight for family and legacy.
