TOP BILLING RETURNS: REIMAGINING THE GOOD LIFE FOR A NEW ERA
South Africa’s most iconic lifestyle show steps back into the spotlight, balancing legacy with a sharper, more contemporary lens.
Some shows define a moment. Top Billing defined a lifestyle, and for nearly three decades, it set the standard for what aspirational living could look like in South Africa. Now, after years off-screen but never out of mind, the cultural mainstay returns.
Premiering Thursday, 30 April 2026 at 19:00 on S3, Top Billing enters a new chapter, one that honours its legacy while leaning fully into the present. Weekly repeats will air Sundays at 13:00 on S3, with rebroadcasts every Tuesday at 21:30 on SABC 1, reintroducing the show to loyal audiences while opening the door to a new generation of viewers.
At its peak, Top Billing was more than appointment television; it was a window into possibility. From architectural masterpieces and global travel escapes to intimate, inspiring profiles of South African success, the show created a world audiences could step into, even from their living rooms. It celebrated excellence not as something distant, but as something attainable. And that’s what made it endure.
Across its 27-year run, and even through years of repeat broadcasts, Top Billing held its place as a cultural reference point. It didn’t just reflect the “good life”; it shaped how South Africans imagined it. The homes, the stories, the people, all part of a broader narrative about ambition, taste, and the art of living well. But culture shifts, and so does aspiration.
Now, Top Billing returns with a renewed sense of purpose, not to replicate what once was, but to reinterpret it. This is a version of the show that understands where South Africa is now: younger, more connected, more expressive, and deeply rooted in identity and innovation.
At its core, the DNA remains unchanged. The show still celebrates South Africa, its people, and their achievements. But this time, the lens is wider and more intentional, exploring not just what success looks like, but how it is built, experienced, and shared in real time.
This new season places a spotlight on a generation of young, urban, culturally aware South Africans, individuals who are actively shaping industries, communities, and narratives through creativity, collaboration, and forward-thinking ideas. These are not just participants in the “good life”; they are redefining it.
Through its established lifestyle pillars, design, travel, entrepreneurship, innovation, and culture, the show continues to explore how people live, dream, and connect. But there’s a noticeable shift in tone: the aspirational is no longer distant or unattainable. It feels closer, more lived-in, more reflective of the world audiences are navigating today.
“We are incredibly excited to bring Top Billing back to South African screens,” shares, Managing Director at Cardova Production, and Executive Producer of Top Billing, Patience Stevens. “This show has always been about celebrating what’s possible. Bringing it back now, at a time when inspiring local stories matter more than ever, feels incredibly special. We’re honouring the legacy while creating something that feels fresh, relevant, and deeply connected to today’s audience.”
That idea of balance, between heritage and reinvention, sits at the centre of the comeback.
“Top Billing has always stood for excellence, aspiration, and storytelling at the highest level. This new chapter is about evolving that legacy for a modern audience, keeping the heart of what made the show iconic, while introducing a sharper, more dynamic take on the good life that resonates with South Africans today.” Adds Bradley Van Den Berg, Chief Operating Officer at Cardova Productions and Executive Producer of Top Billing.
For S3, the return signals more than the revival of a beloved programme; it marks a strategic cultural moment.
“The return of Top Billing marks a defining moment for S3 as we continue to position the channel as a home of iconic South African storytelling, reimagined for today’s audience,” says Dichaba Phalatse, Marketing Manager for SABC Video Entertainment. “This is not just about a comeback; it’s a cultural reset where legacy meets a new generation of viewers who are shaping what aspiration looks like now. Top Billing remains a powerful expression of possibility, and we are excited to bring that energy back in a way that feels unapologetically South African.”
That “reset” is key. Because while the essence of Top Billing remains intact, the context has shifted. Today’s audience is not only consuming content, but they are also part of the conversation. They are building brands, shaping culture, and redefining success on their own terms. The show meets them there.
Supported by key partners including Pam Golding Properties, SPAR, Opel, Tanqueray, and L’Or, the new season is backed by brands that align with its long-standing vision of celebrating excellence, lifestyle, and the many ways the “good life” can be expressed.
As anticipation builds ahead of the premiere, one question continues to circulate: who will become the new faces of Top Billing? The official presenter line-up is yet to be revealed, adding an element of intrigue to a return already layered with expectation.
But perhaps the bigger story isn’t just who will present the show, it’s what the show now represents. Because Top Billing is no longer just about showcasing aspiration. It’s about documenting a generation that is actively building it.
