SABC Shines at the 19th SAFTAs with Multiple Wins Across Its Channels
South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is celebrating a strong showing at the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs), with its Video Entertainment division securing several accolades across multiple categories at the 19th edition of the awards.
Leading the wins was Skeem Saam star Vele Manenje, who received the Best Supporting Actress award in a TV soapie for her portrayal of Evelyn Maswahla on the popular SABC1 daily drama. Meanwhile, Aubrey Poo took home the Best Actor award for his role as Khumo Moroka on Generations: The Legacy.
SABC1 continued its winning streak with recognition across multiple genres. The drama series Soon Comes Night, which premiered on the channel in July 2025, won Best Achievement in Visual Effects (VFX). The popular game show Deal or No Deal Celebrity, hosted by Katlego Maboe, secured the Best International Format award. Educational programming was also celebrated, with Ingono Yomsamo winning Best Educational Format.
On SABC2, the documentary Chasing the Sun was honoured with Best Achievement in Editing, Documentary, while the children’s programme Behind the Rainbow won Best Children’s Programme.
Public voting also played a role in recognising standout talent. Fezile Mkhize, presenter of Top Travel on SABC3 (S3), was voted Best TV Presenter.
Rounding off the evening’s honours, industry veterans Bonny Heaney and Magic Hlatshwayo received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contributions to South Africa’s film and television industry.
The wins highlight SABC’s continued role in producing and broadcasting content that resonates with audiences while showcasing the depth of talent within the country’s television industry.
